Community Medicine

The Department of Community Medicine is provides excellent opportunities for UG and PG students. It is the backbone of all peripheral services being provided by the institute. The Department is involved in a number of extension programmes of its own as well as in partnership with various national and international agencies. Apart from preventive, promotive and curative services are also offered at the field practice areas of the Department.


The Rural Health Training Centre (RHTC), Ardi situated at 9 km from PSMC serves more than 5000 people. RHTC provides OPD based care, training opportunities for intern, resident doctors, students of Masters in Social Work along with 24 hours normal delivery and family health care services.


The Urban Health Training Centre (UHTC) is located at Petlad town about 17 km from PSMC. The UHTC is in the building of erstwhile Nagarpalika Hospital (Sudharai Davakhana) since 1997. The facility is functioning as a health & training centre having General OPD and Speciality based care along with 24 hours facility for Reproductive and Child health  services. Its caters to more than 50000 people in the vicinity.


Multi-diagnostic camps are organized by the Department at various villages. It has forged tie-up with Tribhuvandas Foundation, a renowned NGO, for its ongoing Cancer awareness and early detection project. Along with sections of Epideminology, Communicable/Non-communicable diseases, Biostatistics, Occupational Health, Entomology and Parasitology, the Department also has well equipped laboratories, library and computer facilities.
