India, has recorded a new height of growth in many sectors including healthcare industry but quality and affordable health care services continue to elude the poor. Though, the government health services cater to some of the needs of the rural and urban poor, but making accessible, equitable and affordable medical services to all, still remains a challenge.
The Charutar Arogya Mandal has made a small but sustainable initiation in the informal sector of community based health insurance (CBHI) by launching "Krupa Arogya Suraksha (KAS)" - a social security scheme, promoted by Shree Krishna Arogya Trust (SKAT) in the month of August 2003.
This scheme is aimed at extending the safety net of modern health facilities and services to communities living in the villages and towns of Anand and Kheda districts.
The scheme envisages an affordable annual subscription or a single lifetime subscription by a family for free opted amount of treatment for any illness requiring indoor admission / outdoor services at Shree Krishna Hospital or any other hospital nominated by SKAT. The outdoor services include 24 hrs consultation, 25% discount on diagnostic services, 7.5% discount on the pharmacy services with 10% concession on the ambulance services and health check up packages.
